CELX Troubleshooting
Common CELX Opening Problems
Microsoft Notepad Isn't There
When trying to open your CELX file, you get the error "Can't Open CELX File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Notepad isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your CELX with Microsoft Notepad, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you don't have Microsoft Notepad installed, and you know of another program to open your CELX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Microsoft Notepad is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your Celestia Script File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Notepad. Visit the Microsoft Corporation website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Microsoft Notepad. Your Celestia Script File file was probably created by a newer release of Microsoft Notepad than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your CELX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening CELX files are due to having the incorrect version of Microsoft Notepad installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening CELXs
Assuming you have the right Microsoft Notepad version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening CELX files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening CELX files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Invalid CELX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the CELX file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a CELX-associated program (eg. Microsoft Notepad)
- Something has caused file corruption of your CELX
- Your CELX has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware associated with CELX has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Celestia Script File format
