Understanding CQ Issues

Troubles Opening CQ Files

CP/M Removed

If you attempt to load your CQ file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open CQ Files". When this happens, it is commonly due to CP/M missing in %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CQ file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When another CQ application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

CP/M Requires Update

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of CP/M installed that's incompatible with your SYSGEN Replacement Data type. If you've got the wrong version of CP/M installed, you'll need to install the correct version. Your SYSGEN Replacement Data file was probably created by a newer release of CP/M than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Investigate your CQ file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Regardless, most of the CQ file opening problems relate to not having the right version of CP/M installed.

Other CQ File Opening Causes

Errors opening SYSGEN Replacement Data files can still occur even with the latest CP/M software installed on your computer. Other CQ opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:

  • CQ file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry CQ description
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the CQ format
  • Your CQ file is corrupted (issues with your SYSGEN Replacement Data file itself)
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your CQ
  • Hardware associated with CQ has outdated drivers
  • Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the SYSGEN Replacement Data file
