Troubleshooting Problems Opening CSIG Files

Typical CSIG Opening Challenges

SCons Disappeared

When trying to open your CSIG file, you get the error "Can't Open CSIG File Type". Customarily, this means that SCons is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the CSIG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you don't have SCons installed, and you know of another program to open your CSIG file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

SCons Requires Update

Your SCons Content Signature file is incompatible with SCons because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of SCons if you don't have the right version. Your SCons Content Signature file was probably created by a newer release of SCons than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of CSIG file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Regardless, most of the CSIG file opening problems relate to not having the right version of SCons installed.

More Causes of Problems Opening CSIGs

Errors opening SCons Content Signature files can still occur even with the latest SCons software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening CSIG files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Windows Registry CSIG file paths that are incorrect
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the CSIG file inside the Windows Registry
  • SCons or another CSIG application experienced a flawed installation
  • Your CSIG can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
  • Your CSIG has adversely impacted by malware
  • Drivers associated with CSIG software need to be updated
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open SCons Content Signature files
