Troubleshoot CSR Files
Frequent CSR Opening Issues
OpenSSL Isn't There
If you attempt to load your CSR file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open CSR Files". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because OpenSSL isn't installed on your PC. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you don't have OpenSSL installed, and you know of another program to open your CSR file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
OpenSSL Requires Update
In other instances, your Certificate Signing Request File file version may not be supported by your version of OpenSSL. If you do not have the proper version OpenSSL (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This problem is predominately due to having a Certificate Signing Request File file version that was created by a newer version of OpenSSL than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of CSR file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening CSR files are due to having the incorrect version of OpenSSL installed on your computer.
Additional CSR Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening CSR files even with the latest version of OpenSSL installed on your PC. Other CSR opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid CSR file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry CSR description
- Corrupt install of OpenSSL or other CSR-related program
- CSR file corruption
- Your CSR is infected with malware
- CSR-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Certificate Signing Request File format
