Sources of CUBE Problems
Frequent CUBE Opening Issues
Missing Avogadro
You attempt to load your CUBE file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The CUBE File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have Avogadro for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your CUBE file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Outdated Avogadro
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Avogadro installed that's incompatible with your Gaussian Cube File type. If you do not have the proper version Avogadro (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Gaussian Cube File file was created by a newer version of Avogadro than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your CUBE file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Regardless, most of the CUBE file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Avogadro installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading CUBE Files
Errors opening Gaussian Cube File files can still occur even with the latest Avogadro software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading CUBE files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for CUBE are wrong
- Corruption of the CUBE file description inside the Registry
- Corrupt install of Avogadro or other CUBE-related program
- File corruption affecting your CUBE file
- Malware-tainted CUBE file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your CUBE file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Gaussian Cube File files
