DAX File Complications

Common Problems Opening DAX Files

Missing UMDGen

If you attempt to load your DAX file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open DAX Files". Usually, this is because you do not have UMDGen for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your DAX with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: If you don't have UMDGen installed, and you know of another program to open your DAX file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

UMDGen Requires Update

Your PSP Compressed ISO Disc Image file is incompatible with UMDGen because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of UMDGen. Your PSP Compressed ISO Disc Image file was probably created by a newer release of UMDGen than what's currently installed your computer.

Tip: Investigate your DAX file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Regardless, most of the DAX file opening problems relate to not having the right version of UMDGen installed.

Associated Difficulties Loading DAX Files

Even with the correct version of UMDGen installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DAXs. If you're still experiencing problems opening DAX files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:

  • DAX file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • The DAX file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the DAX format
  • Your DAX file is corrupted (issues with your PSP Compressed ISO Disc Image file itself)
  • The DAX is infected with a virus
  • Drivers associated with DAX software need to be updated
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the PSP Compressed ISO Disc Image format
