DCF Troubleshooting
Frequent DCF Opening Issues
DRM Packager Not Present
When trying to open your DCF file, you get the error "Can't Open DCF File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to DRM Packager missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your DCF because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your DCF file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect DRM Packager Version
Your DRM Content Format File file is incompatible with DRM Packager because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of DRM Packager from Sony Mobile Communications is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of DCF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening DCF files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other DCF File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening DCF files even with the latest version of DRM Packager installed on your PC. Other DCF opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- Invalid DCF file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Deletion of the DCF file description from the Registry by mistake
- Corrupt install of DRM Packager or other DCF-related program
- Your DCF can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DCF
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your DCF file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the DRM Content Format File format
