Sources of DFC Problems
Issues Opening DFC Files
Neurotix Defractor Removed
When you double-click your DFC file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Customarily, this means that Neurotix Defractor is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your DFC with Neurotix Defractor, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another DFC application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Neurotix Defractor is Out-of-Date
Your Defractor Instrument file is incompatible with Neurotix Defractor because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Neurotix Defractor version from the Jenner Fusari website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DFC file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of DFC file opening issues are due to not having the correct Neurotix Defractor version installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading DFC Files
Even with the correct version of Neurotix Defractor installed, you can still experience difficulties opening DFCs. Other DFC opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry DFC file paths that are incorrect
- Accidental deletion of the description of the DFC file in the Windows registry
- Partial installation of Neurotix Defractor that did not fully complete
- Your DFC file is corrupted (issues with your Defractor Instrument file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your DFC
- DFC-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Windows cannot load your Defractor Instrument file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
