Troubleshoot DVM Files
Issues Opening DVM Files
Missing DVM development kit
You attempt to load your DVM file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The DVM File Extension". When this happens, it is commonly due to DVM development kit missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens DVM files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated DVM development kit
Sometimes your installed version of DVM development kit won't support your DVM Movie File Format file. Installing the latest version of DVM development kit from Open Source is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your DVM Movie File Format file was created by a different (newer) version of DVM development kit than what's installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the DVM file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Summary: Not having the right DVM development kit version on your computer can cause problems opening DVM files.
Other DVM File Issues
Assuming you have the right DVM development kit version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening DVM files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening DVM files. These issues include:
- Windows Registry DVM file paths that are incorrect
- The DVM file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Defective install of a DVM program, such as DVM development kit
- DVM file corruption
- The DVM is infected with a virus
- Drivers associated with DVM software need to be updated
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the DVM Movie File Format file
