Troubleshoot ECG Files

Common Problems Opening ECG Files

FreeECG Isn't There

If you attempt to load your ECG file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open ECG Files". If so, it typically means that you don't have FreeECG installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the ECG file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens ECG files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Wrong Version of FreeECG is Installed

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of FreeECG installed that's incompatible with your Electrocardiography Data type. Download the latest FreeECG version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. The primary cause of this problem is that your Electrocardiography Data file was created by a different (newer) version of FreeECG than what's installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your ECG file and clicking "Properties".

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ECG files are due to having the wrong version of FreeECG installed.

Other ECG File Opening Causes

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of FreeECG will resolve your issue. Other ECG opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:

  • ECG file references in the Windows Registry are broken
  • Corruption of the ECG file description inside the Registry
  • Partial installation of FreeECG that did not fully complete
  • Your ECG file is corrupted (issues with your Electrocardiography Data file itself)
  • ECG file integrity has been compromised by malware
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your ECG file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Electrocardiography Data file successfully
