EID File Complications
Typical EID Opening Challenges
IBM Voice Type is Not Installed
Double-clicking your EID file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open EID File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because IBM Voice Type isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the EID file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you don't have IBM Voice Type installed, and you know of another program to open your EID file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Wrong Version of IBM Voice Type is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a IBM Voice Type Languages Newuser File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. You will need to download a newer version of IBM Voice Type if you don't have the right version. Your IBM Voice Type Languages Newuser File file was probably created by a newer release of IBM Voice Type than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: If you right-click on your EID file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the EID file opening problems relate to not having the right version of IBM Voice Type installed.
Additional EID Opening Issues
Although you might already have IBM Voice Type or another EID-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening IBM Voice Type Languages Newuser File files. If you are still having problems opening EID files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
- EID file type Registry entries are wrong
- Corruption of the EID file description inside the Registry
- IBM Voice Type or another EID application experienced a flawed installation
- Your EID file is corrupted (issues with your IBM Voice Type Languages Newuser File file itself)
- Malware-tainted EID file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your EID file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open IBM Voice Type Languages Newuser File files
