Troubleshooting Problems Opening ERD Files
Frequent ERD Opening Issues
DBeaver Disappeared
You attempt to load your ERD file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The ERD File Extension". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because DBeaver isn't installed on your PC. Your operating system cannot associate your ERD with DBeaver, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your ERD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
DBeaver Requires Update
In other instances, your Entity Relation Diagram file version may not be supported by your version of DBeaver. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of DBeaver. The primary cause of this problem is that your Entity Relation Diagram file was created by a different (newer) version of DBeaver than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your ERD, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening ERD files are due to having the wrong version of DBeaver installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading ERD Files
You can still experience errors opening ERD files even with the latest version of DBeaver installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening ERD files, there could be other computer problems. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for ERD are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the ERD file inside the Windows Registry
- DBeaver or another ERD application experienced a flawed installation
- Your ERD file is corrupted (issues with your Entity Relation Diagram file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your ERD
- Hardware associated with ERD has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Entity Relation Diagram file
