Troubleshoot ESX Files

Typical ESX Opening Challenges

Xactimate Isn't There

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ESX Files" when trying to open your ESX. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Xactimate isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the ESX file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens ESX files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Xactimate Requires Update

It is possible that your version of Xactimate isn't able to open your Xactimate Insurance Claims Estimate file due to incompatibility. If you've got the wrong version of Xactimate installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This issue mainly occurs when your Xactimate Insurance Claims Estimate file was created by a newer version of Xactimate than you have on your PC.

Tip: If you right-click on your ESX file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Associated Difficulties Loading ESX Files
