Sources of EVE Problems
Troubles Opening EVE Files
Embedded Vector Editor Not Present
You attempt to load your EVE file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The EVE File Extension". Customarily, this means that Embedded Vector Editor is not installed on %%os%%. The typical path of opening your EVE with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your EVE file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Embedded Vector Editor is Out-of-Date
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Embedded Vector Editor installed that's incompatible with your Embedded Vector Editor Diagram type. Download the latest Embedded Vector Editor version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Embedded Vector Editor Diagram file version that was created by a newer version of Embedded Vector Editor than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of EVE file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening EVE files are due to having the incorrect version of Embedded Vector Editor installed on your computer.
Additional EVE Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of Embedded Vector Editor installed, you can still experience difficulties opening EVEs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening EVE files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- EVE file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the EVE file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a EVE-associated program (eg. Embedded Vector Editor)
- EVE file corruption
- EVE file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to EVEs has device driver corruption
- Windows cannot load your Embedded Vector Editor Diagram file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
