Issues Opening FFP Files

Missing Notepad++

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open FFP Files" when trying to open your FFP. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Notepad++ isn't installed on your PC. The typical path of opening your FFP with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When another FFP application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Outdated Notepad++

Your FLAC Fingerprint Data file is incompatible with Notepad++ because you might have the wrong version installed. Installing the latest version of Notepad++ from Don Ho is recommended. The primary cause of this problem is that your FLAC Fingerprint Data file was created by a different (newer) version of Notepad++ than what's installed.

Tip: If you right-click on your FFP file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Regardless, most of the FFP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Notepad++ installed.

Other Causes of FFP File Opening Problems

Even with the correct version of Notepad++ installed, you can still experience difficulties opening FFPs. Other FFP opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:

• FFP file references in the Windows Registry are broken
• Accidental deletion of the description of the FFP file in the Windows registry
• Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FFP format
• The FFP itself is corrupted
• Your FFP has adversely impacted by malware
• Device drivers for FFP-related hardware are out-of-date
• Too many applications are open on your PC to load your FLAC Fingerprint Data file successfully
