Common FM2 Opening Problems

FCEUX Isn't There

You attempt to load your FM2 file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The FM2 File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have FCEUX for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the FM2 file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: If you have another software that you know opens FM2 files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.

Obsolete Version of FCEUX

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of FCEUX installed that's incompatible with your FCEUX Movie File type. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of FCEUX. The primary cause of this problem is that your FCEUX Movie File file was created by a different (newer) version of FCEUX than what's installed.

Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the FM2 file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening FM2 files are due to having the wrong version of FCEUX installed.
