Troubleshoot FPP Files
Frequent FPP Opening Issues
Missing MacroMates TextMate
You attempt to load your FPP file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The FPP File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have MacroMates TextMate for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your FPP with MacroMates TextMate, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your FPP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
MacroMates TextMate Requires Update
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of MacroMates TextMate installed that's incompatible with your Fortran Source Code type. Installing the latest version of MacroMates TextMate from MacroMates is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your Fortran Source Code file was created by a newer version of MacroMates TextMate than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your FPP, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening FPP files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
Other FPP File Opening Causes
Assuming you have the right MacroMates TextMate version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening FPP files. If you are continuing to have errors with loading FPP files, other external issues might be to blame. Additional factors include:
- FPP file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Unintentional removal of the description of the FPP file inside the Windows Registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the FPP format
- FPP file corruption
- FPP file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware related to FPPs has device driver corruption
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open Fortran Source Code files
