Troubleshooting Problems Opening FR Files
Common FR Opening Problems
Notepad++ is Not Installed
Double-clicking your FR file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open FR File". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Notepad++ for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your FR because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: If you don't have Notepad++ installed, and you know of another program to open your FR file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".
Incorrect Notepad++ Version
Sometimes your installed version of Notepad++ won't support your French Language Translation file. You will need to download a newer version of Notepad++ if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a French Language Translation file version that was created by a newer version of Notepad++ than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your FR, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Regardless, most of the FR file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Notepad++ installed.
Other Causes of FR File Opening Problems
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Notepad++ will resolve your issue. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening FRs. Other contributing causes:
- Windows Registry FR file paths that are incorrect
- The FR file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Partial installation of Notepad++ that did not fully complete
- File corruption affecting your FR file
- Your FR is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with FR has outdated drivers
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the French Language Translation file
