FSG File Complications

Troubles Opening FSG Files

FreeCol Disappeared

You attempt to load your FSG file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The FSG File Extension". Usually, this is because you do not have FreeCol for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your FSG because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your FSG, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Incorrect FreeCol Version

It is possible that your version of FreeCol isn't able to open your FreeCol Saved Game File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of FreeCol. Most of the time your FreeCol Saved Game File file was created by a newer FreeCol than what you have installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of FSG file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Summary: Not having the right FreeCol version on your computer can cause problems opening FSG files.

Other FSG File Opening Causes

Even with the correct version of FreeCol installed, you can still experience difficulties opening FSGs. If you are still having problems opening FSG files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Problems unrelated to software:
