G36 Troubleshooting

Frequent G36 Opening Issues

TiMiDity++ is Not Installed

When trying to open your G36 file, you get the error "Can't Open G36 File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have TiMiDity++ installed for %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the G36 file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.

Tip: When another G36 application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.

Outdated TiMiDity++

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of TiMiDity++ installed that's incompatible with your Recomposer MIDI Sequence type. You will need to download a newer version of TiMiDity++ if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Recomposer MIDI Sequence file was created by a newer TiMiDity++ than what you have installed.

Tip: Investigate your G36 file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening G36 files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.

Associated Difficulties Loading G36 Files

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of TiMiDity++ will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading G36 files, other external issues might be to blame. These issues include:

  • Invalid G36 file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • The G36 file description within the Windows Registry was removed
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the G36 format
  • File corruption affecting your G36 file
  • Malware-tainted G36 file can't be opened
  • Device drivers for G36-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Windows cannot load your Recomposer MIDI Sequence file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)

Poll: How many different computer files (eg. documents, videos, audio) do you typically view or edit on a daily basis?
