Troubles Opening GDP Files
The Scrolling Game Development Kit is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open GDP Files" when trying to open your GDP. Customarily, this means that The Scrolling Game Development Kit is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the GDP file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your GDP, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of The Scrolling Game Development Kit
It is possible that your version of The Scrolling Game Development Kit isn't able to open your Scrolling Game Development Kit Project file due to incompatibility. Download the latest The Scrolling Game Development Kit version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your GDP file and clicking "Properties".
Summary: Not having the right The Scrolling Game Development Kit version on your computer can cause problems opening GDP files.
Additional GDP Opening Issues
Even with the correct version of The Scrolling Game Development Kit installed, you can still experience difficulties opening GDPs. Other GDP opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- Windows Registry GDP file paths that are incorrect
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry GDP description
- Partial installation of The Scrolling Game Development Kit that did not fully complete
- Your GDP can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted GDP file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with GDP has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Scrolling Game Development Kit Project file
