Sources of GFB Problems
Common Problems Opening GFB Files
GIFBlast is Not Installed
When you double-click your GFB file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have GIFBlast for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your GFB with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens GFB files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of GIFBlast is Installed
It is possible that your version of GIFBlast isn't able to open your GIFBlast Compressed Image File file due to incompatibility. You will need to download a newer version of GIFBlast if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of GFB file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening GFB files are due to having the wrong version of GIFBlast installed.
Other Causes of GFB File Opening Problems
You can still experience errors opening GFB files even with the latest version of GIFBlast installed on your PC. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening GFB files. Additional factors include:
- Invalid GFB file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Unintentional removal of the description of the GFB file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a GFB program, such as GIFBlast
- Your GFB file is corrupted (issues with your GIFBlast Compressed Image File file itself)
- Your GFB is infected with malware
- GFB-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your GIFBlast Compressed Image File file successfully
