Frequent GFW Opening Issues
Microsoft Notepad Isn't There
When trying to open your GFW file, you get the error "Can't Open GFW File Type". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Microsoft Notepad isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your GFW because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When another GFW application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Microsoft Notepad is Out-of-Date
In other instances, your GIF World File file version may not be supported by your version of Microsoft Notepad. Installing the latest version of Microsoft Notepad from Microsoft Corporation is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your GIF World File file was created by a newer version of Microsoft Notepad than you have on your PC.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the GFW file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of GFW file opening issues are due to not having the correct Microsoft Notepad version installed.
