Troubleshoot GLS Files

Issues Opening GLS Files

Missing Babylon

When trying to open your GLS file, you get the error "Can't Open GLS File Type". Customarily, this means that Babylon is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your GLS with Babylon, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your GLS, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Wrong Version of Babylon is Installed

Your Babylon Glossary File file is incompatible with Babylon because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of Babylon if you don't have the right version. Most of the time your Babylon Glossary File file was created by a newer Babylon than what you have installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your GLS file and clicking "Properties".

Summary: Not having the right Babylon version on your computer can cause problems opening GLS files.

Additional GLS Opening Issues

You can still experience errors opening GLS files even with the latest version of Babylon installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening GLSs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Invalid GLS file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • Deletion of the GLS file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Corrupt install of Babylon or other GLS-related program
  • Your GLS file is corrupted (issues with your Babylon Glossary File file itself)
  • The GLS is infected with a virus
  • GLS-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Babylon Glossary File file successfully
