HX Troubleshooting
Common HX Opening Problems
Amira Removed
Double-clicking your HX file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open HX File". Usually, this is because you do not have Amira for %%os%% installed. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When another HX application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Obsolete Version of Amira
Sometimes your installed version of Amira won't support your Amira 3D Mesh File file. If you do not have the proper version Amira (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your Amira 3D Mesh File file was created by a newer version of Amira than you have on your PC.
Tip: Investigate your HX file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening HX files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening HXs
Errors opening Amira 3D Mesh File files can still occur even with the latest Amira software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading HX files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid HX file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Corruption of the HX file description inside the Registry
- Invalid installation of a HX-associated program (eg. Amira)
- HX file corruption
- The HX is infected with a virus
- HX-related hardware has device drivers that obsolete
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the Amira 3D Mesh File format
