Troubleshooting Problems Opening IBL Files
Typical IBL Opening Challenges
sIBL-Edit is Not Installed
When you double-click your IBL file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have sIBL-Edit installed for %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your IBL, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Wrong Version of sIBL-Edit is Installed
Your sIBL System Data file is incompatible with sIBL-Edit because you might have the wrong version installed. You will need to download a newer version of sIBL-Edit if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your sIBL System Data file was created by a different (newer) version of sIBL-Edit than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your IBL, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Conclusion: The majority of IBL file opening issues are due to not having the correct sIBL-Edit version installed.
Additional IBL Opening Issues
Errors opening sIBL System Data files can still occur even with the latest sIBL-Edit software installed on your computer. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening IBL files. Additional factors include:
- IBL file type Registry entries are wrong
- The IBL file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the IBL format
- The IBL itself is corrupted
- Past or present virus infection has affected your IBL
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your IBL file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your sIBL System Data file
