ICALENDAR File Complications
Troubles Opening ICALENDAR Files
Microsoft Outlook Isn't There
Double-clicking your ICALENDAR file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open ICALENDAR File". Customarily, this means that Microsoft Outlook is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the ICALENDAR file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another ICALENDAR-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Microsoft Outlook is Installed
Your iCalendar File file is incompatible with Microsoft Outlook because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest Microsoft Outlook version from the Microsoft Corporation website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ICALENDAR file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Regardless, most of the ICALENDAR file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Microsoft Outlook installed.
Other ICALENDAR File Opening Causes
You can still experience errors opening ICALENDAR files even with the latest version of Microsoft Outlook installed on your PC. If you are continuing to have errors with loading ICALENDAR files, other external issues might be to blame. Other contributing causes:
- File references in the Windows Registry for ICALENDAR are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the ICALENDAR file in the Windows registry
- Partial installation of Microsoft Outlook that did not fully complete
- Your ICALENDAR file is corrupted (issues with your iCalendar File file itself)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your ICALENDAR
- Hardware related to ICALENDARs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your iCalendar File file
