IGC File Complications

Common Problems Opening IGC Files

Anime List Builder Not Present

When trying to open your IGC file, you get the error "Can't Open IGC File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Anime List Builder for %%os%% installed on your computer. The typical path of opening your IGC with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your IGC, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

Obsolete Version of Anime List Builder

In other instances, your Anime List Builder Input File file version may not be supported by your version of Anime List Builder. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Anime List Builder. The primary cause of this problem is that your Anime List Builder Input File file was created by a different (newer) version of Anime List Builder than what's installed.

Tip: Right-clicking on your IGC, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Conclusion: The majority of IGC file opening issues are due to not having the correct Anime List Builder version installed.

Additional IGC Opening Issues

Although you might already have Anime List Builder or another IGC-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Anime List Builder Input File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening IGC files. Additional factors include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for IGC are wrong
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the IGC file inside the Windows Registry
  • Invalid installation of a IGC-associated program (eg. Anime List Builder)
  • Something has caused file corruption of your IGC
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your IGC
  • Drivers associated with IGC software need to be updated
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Anime List Builder Input File file successfully

Poll: How many different computer files (eg. documents, videos, audio) do you typically view or edit on a daily basis?
