Understanding ILD Issues
Issues Opening ILD Files
XWE is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open ILD Files" when trying to open your ILD. When this happens, it is commonly due to XWE missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your ILD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your ILD, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated XWE
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of XWE installed that's incompatible with your XWE Data type. Installing the latest version of XWE from Open Source is recommended. This issue mainly occurs when your XWE Data file was created by a newer version of XWE than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of ILD file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening ILD files are due to having the incorrect version of XWE installed on your computer.
Associated Difficulties Loading ILD Files
Assuming you have the right XWE version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening ILD files. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening ILDs. Problems unrelated to software:
- Windows Registry ILD file paths that are incorrect
- Deletion of the ILD file description from the Registry by mistake
- Defective install of a ILD program, such as XWE
- Your ILD can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Malware-tainted ILD file can't be opened
- Hardware associated with ILD has outdated drivers
- Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the XWE Data format
