INVENTOR File Complications
Common INVENTOR Opening Problems
Open Inventor Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open INVENTOR Files" when trying to open your INVENTOR. When this happens, it is commonly due to Open Inventor missing in %%os%%. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your INVENTOR, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Incorrect Open Inventor Version
It is possible that your version of Open Inventor isn't able to open your SGI Open Inventor File file due to incompatibility. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Open Inventor. This issue mainly occurs when your SGI Open Inventor File file was created by a newer version of Open Inventor than you have on your PC.
Tip: If you right-click on your INVENTOR file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Conclusion: The majority of INVENTOR file opening issues are due to not having the correct Open Inventor version installed.
