Troubleshoot IT Files
Issues Opening IT Files
Missing ModPlug Player
If you attempt to load your IT file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open IT Files". Usually, this is because you do not have ModPlug Player for %%os%% installed. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the IT file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens IT files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated ModPlug Player
Your Impulse Tracker Module file is incompatible with ModPlug Player because you might have the wrong version installed. Download the latest ModPlug Player version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Most of the time your Impulse Tracker Module file was created by a newer ModPlug Player than what you have installed.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of IT file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening IT files are due to having the incorrect version of ModPlug Player installed on your computer.
Additional IT Opening Issues
You can still experience errors opening IT files even with the latest version of ModPlug Player installed on your PC. Other IT opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for IT are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry IT description
- Invalid installation of a IT-associated program (eg. ModPlug Player)
- Something has caused file corruption of your IT
- Malware-tainted IT file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your IT file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Impulse Tracker Module file
