Troubleshoot IVS Files
Common IVS Opening Problems
Aircrack-ng Disappeared
Double-clicking your IVS file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open IVS File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Aircrack-ng isn't installed on your PC. You won't be able to double-click to open your IVS because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another IVS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of Aircrack-ng is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of Aircrack-ng won't support your Initialization Vector File file. You will need to download a newer version of Aircrack-ng if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of IVS file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right Aircrack-ng version on your computer can cause problems opening IVS files.
Associated Difficulties Loading IVS Files
Even with the correct version of Aircrack-ng installed, you can still experience difficulties opening IVSs. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening IVS files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for IVS
- Accidental deletion of the description of the IVS file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a IVS-associated program (eg. Aircrack-ng)
- IVS file corruption
- Malware-tainted IVS file can't be opened
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your IVS file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Initialization Vector File file
