Sources of JSF Problems

Issues Opening JSF Files

Adobe Fireworks Not Present

When you double-click your JSF file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". If so, it typically means that you don't have Adobe Fireworks installed for %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your JSF with Adobe Fireworks, so double-clicking the file won't work.

Tip: Another JSF-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Obsolete Version of Adobe Fireworks

It is possible that your version of Adobe Fireworks isn't able to open your Java Script Command File file due to incompatibility. Download the latest Adobe Fireworks version from the Adobe Systems Incorporated website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is predominately due to having a Java Script Command File file version that was created by a newer version of Adobe Fireworks than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of JSF file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Regardless, most of the JSF file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Adobe Fireworks installed.

More Causes of Problems Opening JSFs

Assuming you have the right Adobe Fireworks version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening JSF files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening JSF files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):

  • Windows Registry JSF file paths that are incorrect
  • Deletion of the JSF file description from the Registry by mistake
  • Invalid installation of a JSF-associated program (eg. Adobe Fireworks)
  • The JSF itself is corrupted
  • The JSF is infected with a virus
  • Device drivers for JSF-related hardware are out-of-date
  • Windows cannot load your Java Script Command File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
