Troubleshooting Problems Opening JSH Files

Common Problems Opening JSH Files

JAWS Isn't There

When you double-click your JSH file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to JAWS missing in %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your JSH because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your JSH, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").

JAWS Requires Update

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of JAWS installed that's incompatible with your JAWS Script Header File type. If you've got the wrong version of JAWS installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your JAWS Script Header File file was created by a different (newer) version of JAWS than what's installed.

Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of JSH file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening JSH files are due to having the wrong version of JAWS installed.

Additional JSH Opening Issues

Errors opening JAWS Script Header File files can still occur even with the latest JAWS software installed on your computer. If you're still experiencing problems opening JSH files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:

  • File references in the Windows Registry for JSH are wrong
  • Mistaken removal of the Windows registry JSH description
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the JSH format
  • The JSH itself is corrupted
  • Your JSH is infected with malware
  • Drivers associated with JSH software need to be updated
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your JAWS Script Header File file successfully
