Understanding KEA Issues
Typical KEA Opening Challenges
Panasonic HD Writer AE is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open KEA Files" when trying to open your KEA. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Panasonic HD Writer AE isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the KEA file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens KEA files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Panasonic HD Writer AE Version
Sometimes your installed version of Panasonic HD Writer AE won't support your Panasonic KTS File file. You will need to download a newer version of Panasonic HD Writer AE if you don't have the right version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of KEA file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Primarily, problems experienced when opening KEA files are due to having the incorrect version of Panasonic HD Writer AE installed on your computer.
Additional KEA Opening Issues
Assuming you have the right Panasonic HD Writer AE version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening KEA files. Other KEA opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- KEA file type Registry entries are wrong
- The KEA file description within the Windows Registry was removed
- Corrupt install of Panasonic HD Writer AE or other KEA-related program
- KEA file corruption
