Understanding KMAP Issues
Troubles Opening KMAP Files
Lyx Disappeared
When trying to open your KMAP file, you get the error "Can't Open KMAP File Type". When this happens, it is commonly due to Lyx missing in %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your KMAP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens KMAP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Lyx Requires Update
It is possible that your version of Lyx isn't able to open your LyX Keymap file due to incompatibility. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Lyx. This issue mainly occurs when your LyX Keymap file was created by a newer version of Lyx than you have on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your KMAP file and clicking "Properties".
Regardless, most of the KMAP file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Lyx installed.
Other KMAP File Opening Causes
Errors opening LyX Keymap files can still occur even with the latest Lyx software installed on your computer. If you are continuing to have errors with loading KMAP files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for KMAP
- Unintentional removal of the description of the KMAP file inside the Windows Registry
- Defective install of a KMAP program, such as Lyx
- KMAP file corruption
- Malware-tainted KMAP file can't be opened
- Device drivers for KMAP-related hardware are out-of-date
- Insufficient system resources to successfully open LyX Keymap files
