Troubleshoot KVA Files
Common KVA Opening Problems
Missing KVIrc
If you attempt to load your KVA file, you experience a message such as "Can't Open KVA Files". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have KVIrc for %%os%% installed on your computer. Your operating system cannot associate your KVA with KVIrc, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When another KVA application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Outdated KVIrc
Sometimes your installed version of KVIrc won't support your KVIrc Compressed Archive file. Download the latest KVIrc version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. Your KVIrc Compressed Archive file was probably created by a newer release of KVIrc than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your KVA, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening KVA files are due to having the wrong version of KVIrc installed.
Other KVA File Issues
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of KVIrc will resolve your issue. If you are continuing to have errors with loading KVA files, other external issues might be to blame. Issues that aren't software-related:
- KVA file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Corruption of the KVA file description inside the Registry
- Defective install of a KVA program, such as KVIrc
- KVA file corruption
- The KVA is infected with a virus
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your KVA file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Windows cannot load your KVIrc Compressed Archive file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
