LZX Troubleshooting
Common LZX Opening Problems
The Unarchiver Not Present
You attempt to load your LZX file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The LZX File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have The Unarchiver for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your LZX because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another LZX-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Wrong Version of The Unarchiver is Installed
Sometimes your installed version of The Unarchiver won't support your Amiga LZX Compressed File file. If you do not have the proper version The Unarchiver (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. The primary cause of this problem is that your Amiga LZX Compressed File file was created by a different (newer) version of The Unarchiver than what's installed.
Tip: Right-clicking on your LZX, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Primarily, problems experienced when opening LZX files are due to having the incorrect version of The Unarchiver installed on your computer.
Other LZX File Opening Causes
Even with the correct version of The Unarchiver installed, you can still experience difficulties opening LZXs. If you're still experiencing problems opening LZX files, there could be other computer problems. These issues include:
- LZX file type Registry entries are wrong
- Accidental deletion of the description of the LZX file in the Windows registry
- Corrupt install of The Unarchiver or other LZX-related program
- The LZX itself is corrupted
- The LZX is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with LZX has outdated drivers
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Amiga LZX Compressed File file
