Understanding MHA Issues
Common MHA Opening Problems
Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit Not Present
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MHA Files" when trying to open your MHA. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit for %%os%% installed on your computer. The OS won't know what to do with your MHA file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you know of another program that can open your MHA file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.
Incorrect Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit Version
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a MetaImage Medical Format file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Visit the Open Source website to download (or purchase) the latest version of Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Investigate your MHA file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.
Summary: Not having the right Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit version on your computer can cause problems opening MHA files.
Associated Difficulties Loading MHA Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit will resolve your issue. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening MHA files. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for MHA
- Accidental deletion of the description of the MHA file in the Windows registry
- Invalid installation of a MHA-associated program (eg. Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit)
- Your MHA file is corrupted (issues with your MetaImage Medical Format file itself)
- Your MHA has adversely impacted by malware
- Device drivers for MHA-related hardware are out-of-date
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your MetaImage Medical Format file
