It's main file type association is the I-Melody Format For I-Mode format, but also includes two other rarely-seen file types. MLD files are categorized ordinarily as Audio Files. Other file types can be Graphic Files or Data Files.

Troubleshoot MLD Files

Typical MLD Opening Challenges

Missing Awave Studio

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open MLD Files" when trying to open your MLD. Customarily, this means that Awave Studio is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your MLD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you don't have Awave Studio installed, and you know of another program to open your MLD file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Awave Studio Requires Update

Sometimes your installed version of Awave Studio won't support your I-Melody Format For I-Mode file. You will need to download a newer version of Awave Studio if you don't have the right version. The primary cause of this problem is that your I-Melody Format For I-Mode file was created by a different (newer) version of Awave Studio than what's installed.

Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your MLD file and clicking "Properties".

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MLD files are due to having the wrong version of Awave Studio installed.

Other Causes of MLD File Opening Problems

You can still experience errors opening MLD files even with the latest version of Awave Studio installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening MLDs. Additional factors include:

  • MLD file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the MLD file in the Windows registry
  • Partial installation of Awave Studio that did not fully complete
  • Something has caused file corruption of your MLD
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your MLD
  • Device drivers of the hardware associated with your MLD file are corrupt or out-of-date
  • Your computer does not have the adequate system resources to open the I-Melody Format For I-Mode format
