Issues Opening MPK Files

ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop Not Present

Double-clicking your MPK file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open MPK File". Usually, this is because you do not have ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop for %%os%% installed. You won't be able to double-click to open your MPK because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you don't have ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop installed, and you know of another program to open your MPK file, you can try opening it by selecting from the programs listed under "Show Apps".

Outdated ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop installed that's incompatible with your ArcGIS Map Package type. Installing the latest version of ESRI ArcGIS for Desktop from ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute) is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.

Tip: Right-clicking on your MPK, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
