Sources of MQD Problems

Common Problems Opening MQD Files

Malete Disappeared

You attempt to load your MQD file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MQD File Extension". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have Malete for %%os%% installed on your computer. You won't be able to double-click to open your MQD because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.

Tip: If you know of another program that can open your MQD file, you can try opening it by selecting the application from the programs listed.

Obsolete Version of Malete

Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Malete installed that's incompatible with your Malete Query Data File type. If you've got the wrong version of Malete installed, you'll need to install the correct version. The primary cause of this problem is that your Malete Query Data File file was created by a different (newer) version of Malete than what's installed.

Tip: Investigate your MQD file by right-clicking and selecting "Properties" to find clues on what version you need.

Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MQD files are due to having the wrong version of Malete installed.

Other Causes of MQD File Opening Problems

Although you might already have Malete or another MQD-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening Malete Query Data File files. There can be other issues - unrelated to software - preventing you from opening MQD files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • Invalid MQD file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
  • Unintentional removal of the description of the MQD file inside the Windows Registry
  • Invalid installation of a MQD-associated program (eg. Malete)
  • Something has caused file corruption of your MQD
  • Your MQD has adversely impacted by malware
  • Drivers associated with MQD software need to be updated
  • Insufficient system resources to successfully open Malete Query Data File files
