Sources of MW Problems
Frequent MW Opening Issues
MacWrite Disappeared
You attempt to load your MW file and get an error such as "%%os%% Can't Open The MW File Extension". If so, it typically means that you don't have MacWrite installed for %%os%%. The OS won't know what to do with your MW file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your MW, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Outdated MacWrite
In other instances, your MacWrite Text Document file version may not be supported by your version of MacWrite. Installing the latest version of MacWrite from Apple is recommended. This problem is predominately due to having a MacWrite Text Document file version that was created by a newer version of MacWrite than what you have installed on your PC.
Tip: Find clues on the correct software version by right-clicking your MW file and clicking "Properties".
Ultimately, most of the difficulties opening MW files are due to having the wrong version of MacWrite installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading MW Files
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of MacWrite will resolve your issue. Other MW opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Additional factors include:
- MW file references in the Windows Registry are broken
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry MW description
- Partial installation of MacWrite that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your MW
- Your MW is infected with malware
- Hardware associated with MW has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your MacWrite Text Document file successfully
