Troubleshooting Problems Opening NMV Files
Common NMV Opening Problems
Missing Nintendulator
When you double-click your NMV file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have Nintendulator for %%os%% installed. The typical path of opening your NMV with a double-click won't work because %%os%% cannot make the program connection.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your NMV, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Nintendulator Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of Nintendulator won't support your Nintendulator Movie Capture File file. If you do not have the proper version Nintendulator (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your Nintendulator Movie Capture File file was created by a newer Nintendulator than what you have installed.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the NMV file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of NMV file opening issues are due to not having the correct Nintendulator version installed.
Other NMV File Issues
Even with the correct version of Nintendulator installed, you can still experience difficulties opening NMVs. Other NMV opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Problems unrelated to software:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for NMV
- Deletion of the NMV file description from the Registry by mistake
- Partial installation of Nintendulator that did not fully complete
- Something has caused file corruption of your NMV
- Your NMV has adversely impacted by malware
- Hardware related to NMVs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your Nintendulator Movie Capture File file
