Troubleshoot NPL Files
Issues Opening NPL Files
Nokia Multimedia Player is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open NPL Files" when trying to open your NPL. Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because Nokia Multimedia Player isn't installed on your PC. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the NPL file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens NPL files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Incorrect Nokia Multimedia Player Version
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Nokia Multimedia Player installed that's incompatible with your Nokia Playlist File type. Installing the latest version of Nokia Multimedia Player from Nokia is recommended. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: If you right-click on your NPL file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the NPL file opening problems relate to not having the right version of Nokia Multimedia Player installed.
Associated Difficulties Loading NPL Files
You can still experience errors opening NPL files even with the latest version of Nokia Multimedia Player installed on your PC. Other NPL opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. Other contributing causes:
- Invalid NPL file references in the Windows Registry (the "phonebook" of the Windows Operating System)
- Accidental deletion of the description of the NPL file in the Windows registry
- Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the NPL format
- Your NPL file is corrupted (issues with your Nokia Playlist File file itself)
- Your NPL is infected with malware
- Device drivers of the hardware associated with your NPL file are corrupt or out-of-date
- Your PC doesn’t have enough available resources to open the Nokia Playlist File file
