Sources of NVM Problems
Typical NVM Opening Challenges
PCSX2 Removed
When trying to open your NVM file, you get the error "Can't Open NVM File Type". If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have PCSX2 for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your NVM, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
PCSX2 Requires Update
Sometimes your installed version of PCSX2 won't support your PlayStation 2 BIOS Configuration File file. If you do not have the proper version PCSX2 (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. This issue mainly occurs when your PlayStation 2 BIOS Configuration File file was created by a newer version of PCSX2 than you have on your PC.
Tip: Right-clicking on your NVM, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening NVM files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening NVMs
Although you might already have PCSX2 or another NVM-associated software installed on your computer, you can still encounter problems opening PlayStation 2 BIOS Configuration File files. Other NVM opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These issues include:
- NVM file type Registry entries are wrong
- Mistaken removal of the Windows registry NVM description
- Defective install of a NVM program, such as PCSX2
- Your NVM can't be loaded properly (file corruption)
- Past or present virus infection has affected your NVM

- Windows cannot load your PlayStation 2 BIOS Configuration File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
