OBS File Complications

Issues Opening OBS Files

WAsP Disappeared

You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OBS Files" when trying to open your OBS. If this is the case, it's usually due to the fact that you do not have WAsP for %%os%% installed on your computer. Because your operating system doesn't know what to do with this file, you won't be able to open it by double-clicking.

Tip: Another OBS-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.

Outdated WAsP

In other instances, your WAsP Obstacle List Data file version may not be supported by your version of WAsP. You will need to download a newer version of WAsP if you don't have the right version. This problem is predominately due to having a WAsP Obstacle List Data file version that was created by a newer version of WAsP than what you have installed on your PC.

Tip: Right-clicking on your OBS, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.

Summary: Not having the right WAsP version on your computer can cause problems opening OBS files.

Other OBS File Opening Causes

In the majority of cases, installing the right version of WAsP will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening OBS files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. Issues that aren't software-related:

  • OBS file type Registry entries are wrong
  • Accidental deletion of the description of the OBS file in the Windows registry
  • Incomplete or bad installation of a software application associated with the OBS format
  • The OBS itself is corrupted
  • Past or present virus infection has affected your OBS
  • Hardware associated with OBS has outdated drivers
  • Too many applications are open on your PC to load your WAsP Obstacle List Data file successfully
