Issues Opening OIV Files
OpenIV is Not Installed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open OIV Files" when trying to open your OIV. Customarily, this means that OpenIV is not installed on %%os%%. This will prevent you from double-clicking to open the OIV file because the OS doesn’t know how to handle it.
Tip: Another OIV-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of OpenIV
In other instances, your OpenIV Mod Package File file version may not be supported by your version of OpenIV. If you do not have the proper version OpenIV (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Most of the time your OpenIV Mod Package File file was created by a newer OpenIV than what you have installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your OIV file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.

Errors opening OpenIV Mod Package File files can still occur even with the latest OpenIV software installed on your computer. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening OIVs. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry OIV file paths that are incorrect
- Corruption of the OIV file description inside the Registry
- OpenIV or another OIV application experienced a flawed installation
- OIV file corruption
- Past or present virus infection has affected your OIV
- Drivers associated with OIV software need to be updated
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your OpenIV Mod Package File file successfully
