Troubleshooting Problems Opening OP Files
Issues Opening OP Files
OpenPAT Disappeared
When you double-click your OP file, you may see a dialog box from your operating system stating that it "Cannot Open This File Type". Usually, this is because you do not have OpenPAT for %%os%% installed. The OS won't know what to do with your OP file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens OP files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Outdated OpenPAT
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of OpenPAT installed that's incompatible with your OpenPAT Report type. Download the latest OpenPAT version from the Open Source website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This issue mainly occurs when your OpenPAT Report file was created by a newer version of OpenPAT than you have on your PC.
Tip: Sometimes you can get a clue about the version of OP file you have by right clicking on the file, then clicking on "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac OSX).
Summary: Not having the right OpenPAT version on your computer can cause problems opening OP files.
Other OP File Opening Causes
In the majority of cases, installing the right version of OpenPAT will resolve your issue. If you are still having problems opening OP files, there may be other issues that are preventing you from opening these files. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- Windows Registry OP file paths that are incorrect
- Unintentional removal of the description of the OP file inside the Windows Registry
- OpenPAT or another OP application experienced a flawed installation
- The OP itself is corrupted
- The OP is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with OP has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your OpenPAT Report file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
