P06 File Complications
Typical P06 Opening Challenges
MicroStation Disappeared
Double-clicking your P06 file prompts the message "%%os%% Can't Open P06 File". Generally, this is experienced in %%os%% because MicroStation isn't installed on your PC. The OS won't know what to do with your P06 file, so double-clicking to load the file doesn't work.
Tip: When another P06 application is installed, you can choose to open it by selecting "Show Apps" and using that program.
Wrong Version of MicroStation is Installed
In some cases, you might have a newer (or older) version of a MicroStation Modification Project Resource File file that is unsupported by your installed application version. Download the latest MicroStation version from the Bentley Systems website to ensure you have the correct one installed. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: Right-clicking on your P06, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: In either case, the majority of problems opening P06 files are related to not having the correct software application installed on your computer.
More Causes of Problems Opening P06s
You can still experience errors opening P06 files even with the latest version of MicroStation installed on your PC. If you're still experiencing problems opening P06 files, there could be other computer problems. Issues that aren't software-related:
- Corrupt Windows Registry file path references for P06
- Deletion of the P06 file description from the Registry by mistake
- Invalid installation of a P06-associated program (eg. MicroStation)
- File corruption affecting your P06 file
- P06 file integrity has been compromised by malware
- Hardware associated with P06 has outdated drivers
- Windows cannot load your MicroStation Modification Project Resource File file due to insufficient resources (eg. RAM)
